Cotton is a natural fibre harvested and woven from the cotton plant.
With all-natural fabrics, the edges mark slightly when cut. Usually, a very light browny yellow tone. We cut fabrics on the engraving table or clean Honeycomb bed which can also mark the underside of the fabric.
The laser seals the edge to prevent fraying.
As a benchmark, we recommend that minimum cut widths be no thinner than 2mm. Since cotton has quite an open weave, anything thinner might fall apart completely. See more on cut widths and Kerf (how much the laser takes away.)
Most cottons tend to engrave with a yellow tinge. The lighter the fabric tone the stronger the engraving contrast.
You need to make sure you supply your cotton as flat as possible. Try and make sure it is not crumpled, this can have issues on the focus of the laser.
