Linen is a textile made from the fibers of the flax plant.
As a natural fabric, Linen tends to laser cut with slight singed appearance that is more apparent the thicker the linen being cut. We cut fabrics on the engraving table or clean honeycomb bed which can also mark the underside of the material.
The laser seals the edge to prevent fraying with a brown / orange appearance.
Synthetic felts are usually acrylic based. These laser cut with a glossy edge and with a more melted appearance and lighter tones.
As a benchmark, we recommend that minimum cut widths be no thinner than 2mm. We can go smaller (see cut width image above) but this can make your fabric quite fragile which might not be suitable for the application. See more on cut widths and Kerf (how much the laser takes away.)
Most natural line weaves tend to engrave with a brown / orange tinge. The lighter the linen tone the stronger the engraving contrast will be.
You need to make sure you supply your linen as flat as possible. Try and make sure it is not crumpled, this can cause issues when cutting.
