Earthenware is a common ceramic material that is used for pottery tableware and decorative objects. Terracotta, is a clay-based unglazed ceramic.
It’s not possible to laser cut terracotta unfortunately. We would recommend contacting a waterjet cutting service and supplying the material cut to size for engraving.
Please note, we can only engrave onto surfaces which are flat or have a very slight contour. Engraving around the circumference of terracotta objects is not possible.
The results achieved when laser engraving terracotta differ depending on the type you supply. In most cases the laser will just scratch the surface resulting in a brown slightly grainy appearance with excellent contrast. We will not know how the laser reacts to your terracotta sample until we test it, meaning we can’t guarantee any specific outcome or result prior to this. You will need to supply us with a sample of the material for us to test and prove the laser settings prior to running a job. There is a charge for initial sampling.
Engraving terracotta can produce dust particles that will need to be cleaned from the surface once you receive your job.
It usually isn’t possible to engrave particularly deep into terracotta. The hardness of the material makes this difficult to achieve.
