Pencil&help is a collaborative design and illustration practice with a unique approach, delivering socially engaged projects to their clients.

Laser Cut Shapes – MDF

The first job cut for us was a mural using laser cut MDF which we painted and mounted to the wall as relief elements, for a secondary school in Newham. The laser cut shapes were taken directly from cut paper illustrations produced by Year 8 students at the school.

Laser Cut Shapes – Foam

The second, a foam project as a collaboration with Discover Story Centre in Stratford. Pencil & Help designed a poetry & cut paper illustration workshop and trained their staff to deliver sessions in a load of local schools. The outcomes of these workshops was the basis for an interactive installation that we built for an outreach event in Waltham Forest. Cut Laser Cut, cut these shapes out of coloured zotefoam, and etched a few words onto each shape. We then built some bespoke furniture to create storage for the shapes and workspace to play with them.

Laser Cut Box

The most recent project was a bit different, in that we designed all of the elements from scratch, without a participatory process. The project was commissioned by MBNA Thames Clippers, and Team London Bridge, to coincide with the London Festival of Architecture 2019. To celebrate the centenary of the Bauhaus.
The box that CLC worked with us on is for people to enter their postcard for a competition during the festival. You place your postcard design into the little boat on top of the box, and turn the handle on the front until it disappears into the box.
